Stephanie’s Academy of Dance Wins at Paramount Theatre.


Members of the Mini, Beginning, Junior, Intermediate and Senior Dance Companies from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance participated in the Showstopper competition May 28-29 in Aurora. Competing against dancers from three states and Canada, Stephanie’s dance companies gained many awards, and qualified several dances for Showstopper Nationals to be held in Myrtle Beach, San Antonio and Anaheim this summer. 

The Mini Company won a silver for its jazz dance, placing eighth overall for all mini division small groups. Beginning Company took a gold first trophy for its tap duet, placing seventh overall for all junior division duo-trios. The Juniors won a gold first and a silver second trophy in small group ballet and jazz, placing seventh overall for all junior division small groups. Intermediate Company dancers won two platinum firsts and two gold firsts for their small group modern, ballet, tap, and jazz pieces, placing first thru fourth overall for all teen division small groups, with their modern piece “On the Bound” taking the top spot. Three Intermediate members performed solos, with Katie Wyeth, Randi Rowlett and Lauren Michels all taking gold first trophies, placing third, fifth and sixth overall for all teen division solos. The Companies combined in small groups to take three platinum first place trophies in tap, modern and jazz and a gold first in jazz, placing first and third overall for all senior division small groups and second and fifth for teen. Their tap piece “Moon Dance” secured the top spot. The Senior Company dancers won one platinum first, three platinum seconds and one gold first for their ballet, modern, tap and jazz duets, placing third, fourth, sixth and ninth overall for all senior division duo-trios. Senior Company members performing solos were Zada Cheeks, taking a platinum second, and Sarah Bombard, taking a gold first, placing fourth and sixth overall for all senior division solos.

Mini Company dancers are MacKenzie Fabrizius, Madeline Flynn, Christian Jones, Victoria Linner, Morgan Newhouse, Brynne Reeder, Christopher Samdal and Amber Weaver. Beginning Company dancers are Julia Peck and Emily Thomas. Junior Company performers are Allison Adair, Miranda Ambre, Allison Isabelli, Krista Kee, Natalie Reilly-Finch and Ashley Zegar. Intermediate Company dancers are Jenna Buck, Luz Cheeks, Lexi Clay, Lauren Michels, Randi Rowlett, Emily Santelli and Katie Wyeth. Senior Company performers are Sarah Bombard and Zada Cheeks.

Stephanie’s Academy of Dance offers dance classes for all ages in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip hop and modern and classes in acrobatics and Pilates. The Academy also offers five dance companies (Mini, Beginning, Junior, Intermediate, Senior) for ages 5-18 which perform competitively and for various community events. Stephanie’s Dance Academy Seniors Sweep Competition Awards.


Senior Company members from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance attended the Talent on Parade competition in Aurora on April 23rd. Sarah Bombard and Zada Cheeks garnered many trophies and awards and qualified for T.O.P.’s national competitions to be held this summer.

Zada earned an Elite Top First award and a TOP Starz award for his jazz solo “Breathe.” Sarah also secured an Elite Top First award and a Category Cup award for her lyrical solo “Dream the Impossible Dream.” They each earned the High Score award in their respective solo age division.

Sarah and Zada’s ballet and tap duets took Elite Top First trophies for “Summertime” and “Vivaldi Tap.” They also won Top First awards for their jazz and modern duets “Come On” and “Stand By Me.” Their four duets earned the top four overall scores in the senior duo-trio division, their jazz piece won a Category Cup award, and they earned a full 
scholarship to TOP’s fall master classes for their tap piece. Their three High Score awards also resulted in checks totaling $250, which will be added to the Company fund.

Montgomery Dance Studio Excels at Dance Educators of America Competition.


Members of the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Dance Companies from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance attended the Dance Educators of America competition and convention Apr. 9-10. Stephanie’s dance companies accumulated twenty medals, several special awards, and qualified most of their dances for DEA’s National Competitions to be held in New York City and Las Vegas this summer.
 
Stephanie’s Junior Company brought home three golds and a silver for their ballet, tap and jazz dances.
The Intermediate Company won three gold medals for their tap, modern and lyrical dances and combined with members of the senior company for four additional golds in ballet, tap, jazz and modern. Katie Wyeth earned a gold medal for her jazz solo, and Lauren Michels and Randi Rowlett won silvers for their lyrical and jazz solos. 
Senior Company members earned platinum medals for their tap and jazz duets, and gold medals for their ballet and modern duets. Zada Cheeks won a platinum medal for his jazz solo, and Sarah Bombard received a gold for her lyrical solo.

Company members scored highly throughout the competition. In the Teen Solo category, Katie Wyeth received the 2nd highest score, Randi Rowlett the 3rd and Lauren Michels the 4th highest score; in the Young Senior Solo category, Sarah Bombard received the 3rd highest score; in the Senior Solo category, Zada Cheeks had the highest score. The Senior’s tap duet “Vivaldi Tap” had the second highest score in the Young Senior Duo-Trio category. In the 12 and under Group category, the company took four of the top five scores, with the highest score going to the tap number “Clean It Up,” 2nd to the jazz piece “Nut Bush City,” 4th to the ballet “Sleeping Beauty Waltz,” and 5th to the jazz number “Jump.” The company also took four of the top five scores in the 13 and over Group category, with a 1st for the tap number “Stuck in the Middle,” 2nd for jazz with “Keep the Faith,” 3rd for the modern piece “On the Bound,” and 5th for tap with “Moon Dance.”

The competition’s overall Choreography award went to Catie Dietz of the Academy for her ballet “Vivaldi Variation,” performed by members of the Intermediate and Sr. companies. The Outstanding Precision award went to the Intermediate Company’s modern piece “On the Bound.” The Junior Company won a special judge’s Music in Motion award for their ballet “Sleeping Beauty Waltz.” Another special judge’s award, the CCC (Clean, Crisp, Clear) award, went to the Sr. Company for their tap duet “Vivaldi Tap.” Senior Company member Zada Cheeks received two additional awards: the Star Quality award and a full scholarship to DEA’s national workshop. Intermediate Company member Jenna Buck and Junior Company dancer Natalie Reilly-Finch also received scholarships for the National workshop.

Local Dance Studio Excels at DanceAmerica


Members of the Beginning, Junior, Intermediate and Senior Dance Companies from Stephanie's Academy of Dance attended the DanceAmerica competition and Dance Olympus convention Feb. 17-19. Competing against dancers from more than twenty other dance companies, Stephanie's dance companies gained many awards, and qualified several dances for DanceAmerica Nationals to be held in New York City this summer. The Beginning Company took fourth place with a tap duet performed by Julia Peck and Emily Thomas. The Juniors took three second place trophies in small group tap and jazz, with all three dances qualifying for Nationals. The Junior Company also placed third in small group ballet. Intermediate Company dancers won a first place trophy for its small group modern piece and a second for its lyrical dance, both pieces qualifying for Nationals. The Juniors also took fourth place for their group tap dance.

The Intermediate and Senior Companies combined in small and large groups to take four first place trophies in ballet, jazz, tap and lyrical dance, with all four dances qualifying for Nationals. Three Intermediate members performed solos, with Lauren Michels placing second in jazz and qualifying for Nationals, Katie Wyeth placing third in jazz, and Randi Rowlett placing fifth in lyrical. Senior Company member Sarah Bombard placed second with her lyrical solo and qualified for Nationals. Intermediate Company member Lauren Michels was also selected by DanceAmerica judges as the "Most Promising Young Dancer" of the competition.
