Stephanie’s Academy of Dance in Prairie Fest Parade


Roughly 30 dancers from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance participated in the Prairie Fest Parade in Oswego on June 19th. The younger dancers rode on top of a fire truck while older dancers made their way in the parade at street level. An annual event for the studio, all of the dancers had a great time supporting Prairie Fest!

StephanieStephanie’s Academy Shows “Top Starz” in Des Moines


Two young dancers from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance participated in the Top Starz program at the Talent on Parade National Finals in Des Moines IA from June 14th through 18th. Katie Gilpin and Brynne Reeder attended workshops and rehearsals and performed with other "Top Starz" from around the country in production numbers during the National competition. Each dancer also competed in the solo category of Finals, each bringing home Elite Top 1st Place awards.

Hall of Fame a Huge Success for Stephanie’s Academy of Dance


Pheasant Run resort was the venue for the Hall of Fame Dance Challenge on April 15th through 17th for the Beginning, Junior, Intermediate and Senior company dancers from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance. The three day event featured 43 dance studios from around the Midwest competing with 1056 entries on two stages.

Stephanie’s Academy of Dance companies proudly returned home with five 1st Place Platinum awards, one Platinum award, two 1st Place High Gold Awards, thirteen High Gold Awards and one Gold Award.

In the Overall High Score Awards, the Beginning Company took 3rd Place Overall, the Junior Company took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and the Intermediate Company took 4th and 6th place in their respective categories.

Judges Choice Special Achievement Awards included 2 Showmanship Awards, an Intensity Award and a Precision Award to round out a highly successful effort on the part of Stephanie’s company dancers.

Local Dance Studio Brings Home High Scores at Dupree Dance Competition


All five companies from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance attended the Dupree Dance Competition and Conference on March 5th and 6th at the Oakbrook Marriott. During the whirlwind weekend the 41 dancers took instruction in Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical and Musical Theater before and after the competition event.

Stephanie’s dancers excelled in the competition, bringing home many individual, overall and special awards. Individual and group performances won 3 Platinum, 17 Gold, and 2 Silver awards, as well as nine overall high scores and five special Judge’s Awards.

The weekend came to a close as all participating dancers performed numbers learned in the workshops and celebrated their accomplishments in the Showcase Finale. Once more the dancers from Stephanie’s shone as Katie McComber and Olivia Daylor were awarded scholarships for future conventions and workshops and Alyssa Arocho, Nikki Devine and Ashley Zegar were all awarded All Star Scholarships to attend a three day dance intensive camp this summer.

Successful Start to the 2011 Competition Season at Dance America Regionals


The 2011 competition season for the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Companies from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance began triumphantly on February 18th - 20th at the Paramount Theater in Aurora. Nineteen dancers competed in the Dance America Regional Competition and participated in the Dance Olympus training workshops following the competition.

The troupe was proud to return home with ten 1st place trophies, seven 2nd place trophies and numerous specials awards including 2nd and 3rd place in Overall High Score (Intermediate Company), 2nd place in Overall High Score Female Solo (Ashley Zegar), and Best Technical Presentation (Senior Company). Ashley Zegar won Most Promising Young Dancer and a Young Choreographer Recognition Award.

Six coSix competitors (Nikki Devine, Courtney Krachtus, Victoria Linner, Elizabeth Magalski, Brynne Reeder, and Ashley Zegar) qualified as semi-finalists for the Dance America Dancer of the Year competition to be held in conjunction with the National Competition in July 2011.

Youth Summit Nov. 21, 2010


Stephanie’s Academy of Dance was one of 18 fine arts-based organizations to participate in the Youth Summit for the Arts held at Oswego East High School on Sunday November 21st, 2010.

The purpose of the Youth Summit is to create an opportunity for youth to come together in a non-competitive setting to showcase their talent, heart, and passion. From dancers and musicians to singers and painters, the summit brought young artists from all over Chicagoland together in a positive and nurturing way to display their craft.

These young people not only shared their talents, but partial proceeds from their performances benefited Children’s Memorial Foundation. The show was filmed and sent to the children at the foundation so they can enjoy the performance over and over!

The Youth Summit for the Arts is sponsored by Inaside Chicago Dance.

Oswego…So You Think You Can Dance Fundraiser


Company dancers from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance participated in the “Oswego So You Think You Can Dance” fundraiser as guest performers at Oswego East High school in Oswego, Illinois. Individuals and groups from Oswego East High School competed in the fundraiser by performing various dance routines for a full house of supporters. In addition to Stephanie’s dancers, the Oswego East Step team also performed their award winning competition routine. Proceeds form the event were donated in support of Invisible Children.

Dance America National Dance Competition


The culmination of the 2009-2010 competition season for the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Competition Companies from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance was held in the Coronado Resort at Disney World in Orlando FL. The company dancers traveled to Orlando FL to participate in Dance America Nationals from July 2nd through July 9th, 2010.

Dancers were recognized for their fine work by taking 1st place awards in Intermediate Small Group Jazz, Junior Small Group Modern, Senior Small Group Ballet, and Intermediate Large Group Jazz. They also took home 2nd place trophies for Intermediate Large Group Ballet, and Junior Small Group Modern, 3rd place trophies in Hip Hop, Junior Large Group Ballet, and Senior Modern Solo, and 4th place trophies in Senior Duo/Trio Modern, Intermediate Large Group Lyrical and Senior Duo/Trio Tap.

Elizabeth Magalski, who qualified at the regional level represented the studio in the Dancer of the Year production number and competition in Disney. The trip ended on another high note when the Stephanie’s Intermediate Company was invited to perform in the Grand Finale at MGM Studios at Disney.

Starbound National Talent Competition


The Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin hosted the Starbound National Talent Competition attended by Stephanie’s Academy of Dance on May 15th and 16th. The Mini, Beginning, Intermediate and Senior Companies along with the soloists attending the two day regional competition received awards in the Gold Categories for every dance number performed along with several Judges Special Awards.

Hall of Fame

Rainbow Dance Competition


Junior Company members and soloists from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance participated in the Rainbow Dance Competition on March 19th and 20th in St Charles at the Norris Center. The regional competition netted the solo dancers each a high gold award and the Junior Company 1 High Gold and 3 Platinum awards for their dance efforts.

Dupree Regional Dance Competition


46 company members from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance traveled to St Louis MO to compete in the Dupree Regional Dance Competition over the weekend of the March 13th and 14th. Mini. Beginning, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior company members took 16 Gold and 6 Silver Awards for in the competition along with several overall and Judges Special Awards. Company members and their families also took advantage of the time in St Louis to enjoy the riverfront, St Louis Arch and other area attractions.

Dance America Regional Dance Competition at Paramount Theater


On February 19th, company dancers from Stephanie’s Academy of Dance kicked off the 2010-2011 competition season at a Dance America Regional Competition. Held in the beautiful Paramount theater in downtown Aurora, Stephanie’s young dancers excelled, bring home seven 1st place, three 2nd place and four 3rd place trophies along with several Judges Special Awards. The dancers topped off their weekend by attending Dance America provided workshops in various styles of dance.
